African American Celebration Month: Black History Month

The month-long celebration of African American history and accomplishments is known as Black History Month.  Black American Achievement Month is observed every February in the US. It started back in 1976.

Historian Carter G. Woodson was the first to come up with the concept of a Black History Month. Members of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, led by historian Carter. Currently, the African American Life and History Association. They collaborated to plan a Black History Week, which got underway in February 1926. Due to its proximity to the birthdays of US Presidents, February was chosen as the celebration month.

The person in charge of the Emancipation Proclamation was Abraham Lincoln. Frederick Douglass, an African American abolitionist and orator, is credited with creating the Emancipation Proclamation. The popularity of Black History Week increased during the following fifty years. Americans starting their Black accomplishment celebrations, together with educators. especially in institutions where a sizable portion of the student body is African American.

In the US, during class time, to talk about significant African Americans' historical accomplishments. Its popularity was further aided by the civil rights struggle. In 1976, Black History Month was created by extending Negro History Week. Gerald Ford, the president of the United States, urged everyone to take part in the celebration.

African American Celebration Month: Black History Month

A variety of events were held to commemorate Black History Month at the start of the twenty-first century. Universities and public schools observed Black History Month. All around the nation, different communities celebrate it.

ü National organizations including the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the Records Administration funded it.

ü The National Gallery of Art and the National Endowment for the Humanities provided national sponsorship for it.

ü The Smithsonian Institution and the National Park Service provided national sponsorship for it.

ü The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum served as its national sponsor.

Annual Black History Month celebrations have their roots in the US. Another name for it is Black History Month. Both the American and Canadian governments have formally recognized it. Both Ireland and the UK have recently recognized Black History Month.

ü It started as a method to honor notable Black individuals.  It started as a means of commemorating significant moments in African American history.

The 34.4 percentile of Black people in employment. Black adults 16 years of age and above who are employed in management and business. Black adults (16 years of age and older) employed in the arts and sciences in 2022.
